Houston-based DFS Worldwide shifts over 500,000 tons of goods and cargo each year. Most of it is high value merchandise which is why criminals are so keen to target the facility. It is not simply Houston or one company which is experiencing issues however, as the rest of the country is in the midst of a massive spike in criminal incidents which has not be seen since the 1960s.

Busy distribution hubs, such as New Jersey with the ports of New York and New Jersey, California with its high consumer population, ports and distribution centers and Illinois with a large urban population are all experiencing serious problems.

New Jersey has seen cargo crime increase 87% from 2008 to 2009. Nationally, the increase is 67% with highly organized gangs targeting loads as they leave the factory or plant. By targeting cargo as it leaves a plant, the thieves will typically know what they are going to find in the trailer.

This is not some sloppy, “This is a stick up!” operation either. The gangs will trail the big rig until the driver hits a rest area or truck stop, and they will wait until they are typically away from the 18-wheeler grabbing a meal or a shower. Then they break into the tractor unit, hotwire it and away they go with the load. Most tractor units are left close to the scene of the crime, however the trailers will frequently be taken for many miles from the scene, usually with a makeshift disguise to avoid detection.

DFS Worldwide’s Fred Fontana knows this only too well. A 53 foot trailer was hit with $800,000 of nickel pipe. The thieves waited until the driver left the warehouse and stopped 15 minutes later to fuel up. While inside the truck stop the rig and trailer were stolen – in the space of a few short minutes.

An experienced crew can steal an entire rig in less than 90 seconds – lending new meaning to the popular film, “Gone in 90 seconds!”

Favorite cargoes include consumables and electronics which can be rapidly offloaded to buyers looking to pick up a deal. That said, anything is fair game for the crooks who will just as easily steal beer and beverages, medical supplies, furniture and even industrial spare parts and raw materials.

 Cargo Transportation Security

When you’re on the road, you have a lot to think about. From directions to filling out logbooks to the price of diesel and the price of your lunch, taking care of business on the road is no easy task. With all of the worries you must already address, you don’t want to be stuck with the fear of loosing your cargo on top of your day-to-day stress.

War-Lok makes sure you wont’ have to. The cargo transportation security lock system that everyone is taking about, War-Lok is easy to use, relatively inexpensive, and guaranteed to protect your cargo—literally. Each purchase of the War-Lok anti-theft system comes with a free trucking and cargo insurance policy that covers up to $25,000 in losses. War-Lok is so sure of the fact that they’re anti-theft system will work that they’re willing to take the financial setback if it’s not. And, to this date, War-Lok has never had to pay a claim. That’s proof that they’re system really works.

Unlike traditional cargo transportaion security locks, which can be picked with a pen, the War-Lok uses a flat-keyed locking system that resists this simple type of violation. In addition, the components of War-Lok are built road ready, prepared to stand up to the tough conditions of many miles traveled down the rough road. This system, along with the insurance policy, is offered to truckers at the low price of $236.63.

According to the War-Lok’s advertisers, cargo transportation security systems are needed more than ever in this country. Not only does truck theft result in $25 billion in losses each year, but also recuperating from a truck theft can be time and money consuming. Truckers can’t get back on the road; they may have to buy a new truck; they may loose their jobs; they may be out of work for several weeks or months.

For these reasons, truckers need to ensure that their truckers are protected. For an investment of less than $300 for the War-Lok, truckers can prevent the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars, along with their livelihoods. Truckers can learn more about the War-Lok by visiting RoadTrucker.

With an insurance policy and a state-of-the-art lock, truckers can’t go wrong by purchasing the War-Lok security system. For truckers who really want to make sure their cargo is safe, the item is a necessity
